In April 2007, the Mayor of Issaquah, representatives from the City Council and members of the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce traveled to Morocco for a formal sister-city signing ceremony with Chefchaouen's Mayor and the US Ambassador to Morocco.
"I am pleased to state that following research about Issaquah city and its people, I believe that establishing a sister city program between our cities would be of mutually valuable."
