August 2004:
Our first program provided all school supplies for 80 students in Morocco – the first step toward educating teens in Morocco and the US about the kindness and generosity of people in both countries.
Upon her return from Morocco, emboldened by the support and encouragement she received, Iman Belali founded AMIE.
August 2005:
AMIE Summer Camp, USA. Seven girls traveled from Morocco to Issaquah, WA. They learned and lived with seven American girls and their families. Students spent one week at Microsoft and attended their DigiGirlz program, visited the University of Washington campus and participated in an engineering activity, toured and learned from professionals at the Smashing Ideas studio and traveled to Lake Chelan for two days of swimming and outdoor fun.
August 2006:
AIME Summer Camp, Morocco. AMIE sent 10 American students to Morocco, where they joined 10 Moroccan students for a two-week program of travel, cultural exchange and learning; tours included Casablanca, Marrakech, Chaouen and Rabat. Students also delivered donated computers to a school in Chefchaouen.
August 29, 2006:
Iman Belali proposed that the City of Issaquah (USA) establish an official sister-city connection with Chefchaouen, Morocco.
December 4, 2006:
The City of Issaquah’s Mayor, Ava Frisinger, and representatives from the City Council signed a resolution to establish Chefchaouen, Morocco, as the Sister City of Issaquah, WA, USA.
April 2007:
Iman Belali awarded the Farhat J. Ziadeh Youth Leadership Award by the Pacific Northwest's Arab-American community for creating and leading the American Moroccan International Exchange (AMIE).
April 2007:
The City of Issaquah’s Mayor, representatives from the City Council and members of the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce traveled to Morocco for a sister-city signing ceremony with Chefchaouen's Mayor and the US Ambassador to Morocco.
May 4, 2007:
AMIE hosted the first annual Casablanca Nights Gala at the Inglewood Golf Club (in the State of Washington, USA), where they raised substantial funds for expanding AMIE programs.
August 4 – 19, 2007:
AMIE Summer Camp, USA. AMIE will send 14 Moroccan students to the US, where they will experience American culture in the Pacific Northwest with 14 American students. Students will attend technical workshops with Smashing Ideas, Microsoft’s DigiGirlz program and an overnight camp retreat at Lewis & Clark State Park. |
